Creating content can sometimes come off as an interesting activity, and although there are myriads of ways to do so, it’s good to outline the standard steps you could take to create quality content in whichever form you deem fit. These steps could be followed regardless of whether you’re creating an article, video, graphics, social media posts or any other form of content!
Know your audience
Before creating any form of content it’s essential to get to know who exactly you’re creating it for. What exactly are you looking for? What do you like about this or that? A bit of research can go a long way here, and so you could use tools such as google keyword planner, semrush, google trends and so many other research tools to get a good idea of what your audience likes and what they dislike, their interests, demographics and more. Think of it like dating, you can’t simply fall in love at first sight, you need to spend some time getting to know each other and seeing if you are a good fit for each other.
Define your goals
The next step would be to define your goals. Think about what exactly is that you want to achieve with the content you are creating and how you want to use it. Depending on your content and goals, you can determine the style and tone you’d like to carry throughout your writing, and even the type of information you’d like to convey. For instance, some contents are created with the sole purpose of informing an audience while others are made to entertain. Whatever your goal is it is sure to impact your content creation processes.
Choose your content formats
Now it’s time to think about the content formats you’d like to choose. You could decide on making blog posts, videos, podcasts, graphics and many more. Be creative and think of whichever way you’d like to convey your information, whichever fits your goals and audience the best. As far as a recommendation goes, I’d say blog posts combined with video content is ideal. However, you need to think about what you can use to share your content, for instance, if you are going to use YouTube, having video content is a must!
Research
At this step, it’s important to research about whatever niche or topic it is you are creating content for. This way you could gather enough information and create a piece of content that is both informative and engaging. Having the right information at your disposal is important to create a good article, video or other forms of content!
Create an outline
Now that you’ve got all your ideas together it’s time to create an outline for your content. Think about what you want to include or not, your introduction, body and conclusion. This way you have everything organized and ready to go when it comes time to finally create the content piece you had in mind.
Write, record or design
Now it’s time to actually write, record or design your content. This is probably one of the most exciting parts of the whole process as you start seeing everything come together. If you’re writing you could put your ideas into text on a document and start writing your article. If you’re recording a video you’ll record your ideas on camera and for designing, you could design your content accordingly.
Edit or revise
After you’ve created your content it’s time to go over it, and think about what changes, if any, you’d like to make. This would be a good time to revise and make sure that everything is in order. This is also an important step as you can make the necessary edits to your content piece and make it as good as it can possibly be.
Add images, graphics or videos
If relevant, you could add images, graphics or videos to your content piece. This could make your content visually more pleasing and engaging. Images, graphics and videos always make content creation more enjoyable as they break up text and help deliver information in a more fun way, so feel free to utilize them!
Optimize
If you’re going to upload your content somewhere online, you should optimize it. Optimization would involve adding the right keywords, description and anything else that might be required for the platform you’ve chosen. This way, it’ll be a lot easier for people to find your interesting content piece!
Publish the content
After you’ve done all the edits and optimizations it is time to publish or share your content. That is to say, it’s time to put your interesting content piece out there for the world to see.
Promote
After promoting your content, it’s a good idea to promote it some more! Think of it as a newborn baby that you want the whole world to know about. You can promote or market your content on social media, through ads, influencer marketing or any other way you find fit. The more promotion you do, the more views and engagement you are going to get!
Engage
Content creation doesn’t end with the publishing date. You should engage with your audience, respond to their comments, reply to any questions they might’ve asked and so much more. This interaction will further boost your content’s engagement rate and help build a good relationship with your audience.
Measure results
Once your content has been published it is a good idea to measure the results to see what worked and what didn’t. You’ll see how popular your content is on different platforms and the engagement it gets, which would, in turn, help you improve your future content pieces.
Iterate and improve
After seeing what worked and what didn’t, it’s time to iterate and improve your content creation process for future content pieces. Content creation is a never-ending process, and with time and research, you’ll be able to create interesting content like an old pro!

creating content requires good knowledge about your audience, creativity, research and so much more, but the process is not that difficult especially when you consider the outlined steps. Although the steps may change depending on your content and goals, creating content generally follows a standard process that consists of getting to know your audience, knowing your goal, researching, writing and publishing! All in all, remember to always improve in content creation since it is a process that constantly evolves!
